This crescent spud wrench has a spike end for aligning the holes in two pieces of metal so you can drop a bolt through them. |
Large crescent wrench. |
This Crescent wrench was made in America by the actual Crescent Wrench Company (now part of a larger tool outfit). |

This fancy, discontinued model is extreme: it has a battery and small electric motor that turns the adjusting screw for you. Other than that it’s a standard crescent wrench. Imagine being stuck on the road because the battery in your manual wrench is dead. |

Cute little crescent wrenches are cute. |
This isn’t a completely silly design, but as soon as you exercise the fact that it can bend, you lose a lot of leverage. Perhaps consider a socket wrench instead. It also optionally ratchets automatically, using a lever mechanism that can be disabled with a sliding latch. |
This model doesn’t ratchet, but you can adjust the jaws quickly. |
This “miner’s wrench” adds a hammer face, acknowledging the fact that people are going to use wrenches as hammers anyway. For added convenience, there’s also a ratchet drive on the other end. |
The jaws on this on get a bit tighter each time the squeeze the handle, and lock at that separation until you press the release button. |
A lovely tiny wrench best used as a keychain. |
Laminated Crescent Wrench Small |
This variety isn’t usually called a crescent wrench, though the design is basically the same. They look very weak, but that’s OK because they are designed to turn large slip nuts on plumbing fixtures, which don’t require much torque. |
In this design, the whole adjusting screw slides out when the wrench is turned backwards, providing an automatic ratchet action (but only as long as the nut is fairly tight). |

The standard crescent wrench has changed very little over many decades, and versions from different manufacturers look nearly identical. There are some cheap brands that are really quite good. |

Crescent wrench on one side, useless wrench on the other. |
Two sizes of crescent wrench in one. Useful? Only a little, since both are adjustable. |
