• This is not a spring clamp in the sense that its purpose is not to hold things together. But it’s so beautiful I put it here anyway. It is a welder’s ground clamp, used to complete the electrical circuit through a piece of steel being joined by a stick welder. This explains the pound of solid electrical brass used in its construction.

• This clamp can squeeze like a regular clamp, or you can turn the jaws around and use it to press outwards, for example to clamp something to the insides of a box.

• Two-way Clamp

• This is a pretty unusual small metal handscrew clamp I found in my basement workshop.

• Metal Handscrew Clamp

• Big binder clips can be quite useful as clamps for small projects.

• Modern handscrew clamps typically have metal screws, because they are much smoother and stronger. This antique one is 100% wood.

• Bar Clamp

• These plastic clamps are not very strong, but they are very fast to use, with a trigger instead of a screw.

• Plastic spring clamps are dime a dozen, almost.

• Apparently whoever had this clamp before me was not very careful with it.

• If you want to make a whole picture frame, you need four corner clamps. Or you can use one belt clamp (which is nearly indistinguishable from a ratcheting tiedown strap).

• This “heavy duty clothes pin” is as much a clamp as some things sold as clamps.

• Even literal clothespins can be used as clamps for model building.

• Clamp

• This clamp is also lightweight and not very strong, but it’s a good clamp for gentler situations.

• There are some odd variations on bar clamps which take advantage of the fact that the moving jaw does not need to move far, since the sliding jaw can quickly get you very close to the right size. A cam lever which moves the jaw only a small distance can quickly apply quite a bit of pressure.

• Four metal corners turn this strap clamp into something you can use to pull together the four corners of a picture frame or box.
