Moving farther down the arm, this is a finger ring sizing tape. |
If wrapping a normal tape measure around your arm is too much trouble, you can get this tool: a tape measure whose only job is to tell you the circumference of an arm or a leg, without costing an arm and a leg: this one set me back $2.90 delivered. |
Ultrasonic distance meters are getting hard to find: laser versions are better, and not much more expensive. |
The antique steel tape on the left has small metal markers brazed or soldered on, probably by hand, every foot. This keeps the tape itself strong and straight, while providing robust, stamped numbers counting out the feet. |
This pen and tape measure set belonged to my mother, and was on her desk for as long as I can remember, quite possibly since before I was born. Keychain tape measures are available in every hardware store or gas station. |

I have frankly too many tape measures. These are just the ones that came up in a brief sweep of the shop. |
