This jig automatically aligns your drill bit with the center of the board. |
Routers are often used with jigs that guide their movement. This jig, for example, guides a router equipped with a V-shaped bit to cut the fingers of a dovetail joint. |
This very heavy cast iron router jig is designed to cut blind pockets in stair stringers (the two long boards the run along each side of a stairway holding up the treads). The treads fit into the grooves, leaving the outside of the boards smooth and attractive-looking. Many little adjustments on the jig let you set the size and spacing of the treads. |
This pocket hole jig aligns a bit to drill a hole at a steep angle at the edge of a board. |
Each post in my fence required two cuts, one flat, and one at 45 degrees to form a bevel on one side. I made this double-sided jig to position the saw correctly for both cuts, one on each side. My only mistake was designing it so that it screwed to the top of the post, not the bottom. So after each post was finished, the jig and cut-off section came crashing down. |
The head on my laser cutter is always supposed to be 8mm above the surface being cut, so I made this dedicated feeler gauge. With my laser cutter. |
Most depths stops are much simpler than the antique one on the left. You don’t need one for every diameter of bit, just close enough. |
This jig goes with the one above: it guides a router and chisel to make the shallow mortises required for door hinges. |
This special-purpose jig aligns hole saws or large auger bits to drill out the two crossed holes needed to install a standard door latch. |
This looks like a pocket hole jig, but it’s actually a specialized clamp that fits into an existing pocket hole to temporarily clamp the boards together. |
Routing is all about accurate guidance. These sliding guides, all slick in aluminum, brass, and stainless steel, are of the “fancier than they really need to be” variety. |
